Our second story addition

We added a second story to our ranch home, starting in sept and finishing the end of December. The house had three bedrooms and 2 baths on the main floor. The house now has two bedrooms on the second floor, a bath and small sitting room. The main floor now has one master bedroom with two walk in closets and laundry attached to one walk in. And still two baths. A large over hang was added off the back of the house and a large porch was added to the front for added support for the weight of the second story.

HI -- Great job so far . Are you still doing something to make the new top floor tie in more to the main floor . The new addition still looks like it is just perched on top. Are you perhaps adding some of the new siding onto the lower half of the old part of the house ??

@lefty, we found it very hard to match the brick we already had, tearing the brick off would have drove the cost up passed our limit. This is pretty much the end of the project. The garage door still needs to be painted black and more cultured stone is to be added to the front of the porch, and of course landscaping...

I like the symmetry. Personally I would've pushed more with the exterior design.

I think you could tie in the 2nd floor color with furniture on the porch. Also you could consider painting the porch posts (and will there be a railing?) the same color as the upstairs siding, or painting all the window trims dark to match the door and porch posts. There's something about the mix of light and dark that doesn't look balanced to me. You'll have time to figure it out before it's warm enough to paint. Nice addition!

This may be too much to ask, but my husband and I are considering buying a ranch and lifting to add more space. We have no idea how much additional we should expect to invest. Would you mind sharing your ballpark investment on the renovation? It really looks great and is very inspiring!
