Rick- I'm not sure if it's H. Astephana. I looked that up and the flowers seem to be shaped different. I still can't ID it, so it's a possibility.

Thank You Denise!! Any tips to keep the penducles from dying? I don't know what they were thinking marking it down. I've never seen this particular hoya near me. It's always just krimson princess. All the plants that were marked down there was nothing wrong with them.

In that condition, I would probably snatch any Hoyas up even if I already owned them. It's a GREAT deal!!

If it blasts the buds, don't worry about it. It will re-bud. A move or change of environment can sometimes cause this, but once a peduncle has budded up, it's just a matter of time before it does so again. So once it's settled in its new home, it'll re-bud. Of course, there's a fair chance it will keep budding and blooming just fine, too. I just mailed off a budding fungii a week or so ago and she says the blooms are still maturing just fine. That's after being in a box for a couple days! They can take quite a bit...

Now is it true once they are budding in blooming you shouldn't mist or shower with water? Just wonderig because it does have a bit of bird droppings on it maybe that's why they discounted it. And they prefer bright light or full sun? I've read so many different things that it gets confusing sometimes

Actually it does not look like Hoya brevialata. Hoya brevialata has like beige looking flowers and the leaves are more lanceolate. To me subject plant is crossed with something else.

If you plan to put it outside, keep it in a shady spot. Inside, an east or west window is good, close to the window - sun through a window isn't nearly as intense as sun outside.

If the plant takes up water ok, I wouldn't worry about repotting it. However, I'll make a couple points. I'm assuming this is an EA (Exotic Angel) plant since you got it at Lowes. EA plants aren't in the best soil, and I find the best way to water them (and I actually do this with a lot of my bigger plants, even ones in my own soil) is to take down, put over your sink or tub and water until it flows out of the drainage holes. Wait 20 min to half an hour, then repeat. If it feels nice and heavy at that point, it's ok to put back in its spot. However, I sometimes wait another 20 minutes and do it again. Sometimes with that first watering, the water flows around the outside of the pot and isn't absorbed much in the middle. It can take two or three waterings with a big pot to get the whole rootball watered. Another point I'll make is that if it's dry just a couple 2-3 days later, that means it IS time to repot.

Jan- many of the leaves are lanceolate and some are round. Denise- yes it's definitley an EA. And for the little hanging pot it's in, it's heavy. Once this drys out I will try your tip on watering. Yours is such a dark green!! Mine is more yellow green and some leaves have a reddish tint around the edges. I'm assuming this is from a lot of sun? Thank you for the link I will have to read that

I am puzzled by this. It's an EA plant, and of their very limited hoya selection, this has to be H. brevialata. But the leaves are way too round for it, and my brevialata (also from EA) blooms do not look nearly as red:

ALTHOUGH... Leaves do get a bit rounder with stronger light, which is confirmed by some reddening / blushing here, and by a lighter green shade to the leaves overall. The redder bloom color can be explained (maybe) by cooler temps. It's interesting to see how future leaves and blooms will look if grown in less light and more warmth.

Update on this one. The color is changing, becoming more medium to dark green. New growth isn't as round either. All the penducles on it had buds and then they all blasted :( hoping it was because of an environment change. I just moved it to a different room with more light. Maybe it will make a difference. (Sorry it's dark I had to close the blinds to take the picture)

The leaves do look like brevialata. Mine does this too - some leaves are almost perfectly round, and some are very elongated at the base. I would be interested to see how it reflowers though - that flower color is quite a mystery to me.

Greentoe357- I can't wait for it to start budding again! I was so disappointed when they blasted. Hopefully soon. When they do I will post a picture!

I am new to Hoyas but my dad use to grow them and I am trying to build varities if you ever have starters please let me know.

Update: it started budding not that long ago! Hopefully I won't have to wait too long to see the blooms
