Question on adding a Rec/Reg unit a 2 circuit system?

Have a 11hp Briggs and after looking at electrical Schematic does not appear to have a Reg,only a Diode on one side and AC on other wire for headlight.Problem is after turning on mower i get 16.5 volts at battery,or 15.9 at idle. Can i just add a regulator ,briggs #493219 with 2 yellow wires and one black for headlight and one red for battery.Or is it not that simple,I did cheak diode and its only flowing current one way, everything starts and runs ok.This is a 1988 tractor and motor.I tryed a stator from a 12 hp unit, same year and still same problem, flywheel magnets looked same size so dident change that.thx for any adviseu could give

Id like to hear what the electrical gurus have to say, but it may help to know what issues you were having that made you want to check voltages. Maybe battery cooking out, or blowing fuses.

What is the DC voltage motor off?

What is the AC voltage at the stator?

I just bought this tractor, got it home started it and rod went thru side off motor,so never had a chance to really run it,found another motor built same year 1988 but 12 hp so installed that (came off a Huskivarna) could not find a reg on that mower either,so figured it would work, same carb and coil.Ran it and cheaked battery just because and noticed that voltage after approx 10 min would creep up to 16.5 running full throttle,so adjusted the throttle with lil change,at idle was 15.5,so pulled the flywheel and installed the altenator from the 11hp, (note 12 hp half circle Alt with one red wire,11hp original engine had 2 wire full circle, mower has lights) flywheels were different but same size magnets.anyway same problem,16.5 volts.Battery had a standing voltage off 12.7 (off my snowmobile) tested diode and current only one way,AC upstream of diode was 28vdc,i am concerned about blowing up battery.I dont see a typical fuse in the wireing or schematic unless its a lil black box beside the solonoid with 2 wire connections.thx waren

Took some more readings, got 1.5 ohms upstream from diode to Alt.

Zero reading from pin in connector on red wire.with engine running after 10 min running on high idle get 13.9 DCV on red wire in plug, Zero VAC reading same plug and wire.Testing VAC upstream of diode get 28.5 VAC and 13.3 DCV ,all tests done with white connector disconnected.Based on wha

t i have found and what i have read on this forum everything sounds correct i think. The engine model number 88102511 (11hp) doner engine #88093031.

    Note:currently running the 12hp flywheel with 11hp stator/Alt

Can i just install a reg/rec unit or will it not work thx, many hrs invested now and frustrated, any help or direction would be great.thx
