I also got one two years ago and it is now the size of a grape; no leaves, and no roots!! Nice to see yours, you say it's virused; may we see the leaves and do you think it came that way?

Hi Donna, It is leafless now, so there is not much to see. But the symptoms were quite clear last summer. I kept it in isolation until now with hopes of seeing a bloom, and try to pollinate it. I'll probably wait for new set of leaves and reassess its condition.

I won't speculate about whether they came with virus, but 3 out of 7 bulbs I obtained from Komoriya developed clear viral symptoms in the first summer I owned them. They were outdoors, so it is possible they were infected after arriving. However, few or none of my own seedlings or older plants from previous years developed these symptoms during the same period of time. In other words, my growing conditions do not seem to present a high risk of virus infection.

Thank you, I think I will have to seriously reassess any future purchases. Currently, many of my bulbs still haven't even set leaves so I have no idea if any of them are infected. :-(

Bill, it's a beautiful bloom. I love the pink! I'm in the same boat you are in. With several hundreds of pots (400+ at last counting), I lose only a couple each year to virus as I am liberal with the systemic insecticide. Thus, when several bulbs within a limited collection from a single source "succumb", you have to draw your own conclusions. Like Donna, my bulbs are imitating "pet rocks"! I am finally getting some leaves and blooms, but it's still relatively cool. Only when the bulbs are stressed will they show any symptoms they may be harboring.
