Bypass pruner woes

I have a new pair of pruners. Bypass time. I'm cutting willow and poplar for propagating. I normally do this with two cuts: One at the bottom at an angle, one at the top straight.

I have zero problem with the straight cuts.

The angle cuts however have issues with the last bit folding over and mangling instead of cutting clean.

The willows are worse than the poplar. It's less of a problem with heavier stock.

Is there a better way to do this? I have thousands to do.
