Pink sofa! (?)

I’m working on furnishing my recently renovated home and am
on the cusp of ordering a pink sofa. Am I nuts? I’ve had a beige sofa for ten
years and I’m just over beige. I read a lot of advice to go neutral with "pops" of color and I’m sure that works for a lot of people but I have a feeling if I
did that I would not be happy. The pink I’m talking about here is not Barbie
pink (not that there would be anything wrong with that), it’s more of a dusky rose. (The manufacturer calls it Lilac, but it’s not
what I think of as Lilac.) I do have a designer who is helping me, and when we
went through all her inspiration pictures, the ones that I liked the most were all full
of pastels, which surprised me but I feel like I should go for it. In a way I feel
like I hired a designer so that she would give me permission to go outside the
box, whereas I wouldn’t have the confidence on my own. Anyone else
have a colorful sofa? Here’s one of the inspiration pics I liked:

Oh, my picture didn't show up--let me try again:

I have a green sofa. Fairly muted, but clearly and unambiguously green. I've had it for almost 5 years, I still like it, I'm not tired of it, and I fully expect it to need reupholstering before I do get tired of it. I say, go for it.

My neighbor had a pale pink couch and it was lovely and classic. I have had a navy blue couch for 20 years and still love it, although it needs re-upholstered now.

I had 2 pinkish (mauve) wing chairs that I definitely thought, 'omg, what was I thinking when I ordered these!?' a few yrs later ... but, maybe the difference is the color went well with a floral couch I had-- I didn't love the chair color by itself and would never have ordered them if not for the couch (I also tired of the floral pattern which I really did like!)... I still have them... with slip covers now!

if you love pink and can't imagine yourself tiring of it, you'll probably be ok with it... at least for a few yrs! !

I had a pink sofa for years. In my case the pink was a peachy color. I say buy the sofa. Before you give the go ahead to your decorator, make sure this rosy color is not difficult to coordinate. Pillows or wall art or baubles or rugs, make sure you can find things that will not clash with the sofa. What other colors will you be using in the room?

We had friends who had an off white sofa with very, very pale pink club chairs. It was lovely. It so depends on the pink.

I know monitors can be different, your inspiration picture looks more on the lilac side than pink.

If you like it, go forth with happy confidence. If you care about what's in, the current fashion for white slipcovers, grey, and brown will not last forever. I was afraid my own purple couch would be like having Barney in my living room, but it's fine. Albeit grounded with wood floors, similar color rug, and other upholstery.

pink is such a happy color; I bet it would put a smile on your face every time you walk into the room

I never go with what's "in", so I say if you love it, get it. However, if it's pricey, do think long and hard before pulling the trigger. Jus sayin. :)

I have a small pink and green check sofa in the same room with an apple green cut velvet sofa and two club chairs in a bold green and red stripe. And two side chairs in a pink chinoiserie pattern. The colors are beautiful, bold and i adore them even after nine years. We have an interior designer who is really good with color and pattern. I consider myself lucky to live in such vibrantly pretty rooms :-)

Thanks guys, I feel emboldened. It’s true I could tire of
it, but I think that could be true of anything. I am definitely tired of beige.
The sofa is the first item that we are choosing so we’ll be able to decorate
around it for the most part. I enjoyed reading about your colorful pieces!

Here is my pink check sofa!

Go pink! I was in love with this pink George Nelson sofa on 1stdibs.

I love the pink color sofa in your Inspiration photo and can picture it in a high ceiling Victorian. If you tire of it you can get custom slipcovers made.

I have a grey sofa btw and talked DH out of red velvet sofa that we both liked..convention won for me but if that red velvet was blue I would have gone for it.

It sounds like in your heart you really want to so go for it! Unless you're living with someone who would deeply disapprove, ie, SO.

Well, I've been looking at a blue leather sectional. I live in a guy ouse, so pink is never going to work here, but I've had a baseball glove brown leather sectional for 12+ years now and I'm kind of over the browns. Never liked the blacks and grey just doesn't seem to gel in the plans. Blue is my favorite color and is in nearly every room in some way. Guess we'll have a bigger splash. If you love the color, why not? Anyone can do a brown sofa.

It sounds like a nice change from beige. I don't think it's crazy at all. I think many people are getting tired of neutrals and want color. I love pink with green! Please post a pic when you're done redecorating, I'd love to see it.

Go for it. I've been thinking about new furniture and I'll most likely stay with a color. This may vary by location, but I honestly don't know a single person who decorates trendy. Stinkygardener, a poster who I haven't seen here in a while, had a lovely room with lots of pink. Hope you'll post photos if you pull the trigger.

Absolutely go for it and enjoy the heck out of it :D

Do the other people living in the house love it also? If it is a consensus then go for it but if there will be a family war over it you might want to consider their feelings. We always make our decisions together and luckily have very similar taste. We have a set of navy blue leather furniture in one of our living rooms that we have had for several years now and I still love it. In our tv den room we have a brown leather couch and 2 chairs and 2 blue recliners, I love blue and browns together. The rug ties them all together beautifully.

kswl, love your taste..even your dog is perfect!

I would go for the pink too, since it seems to appeal to you. Someone I know has a lime green sofa, with turquoise accessories. When she mentions the lime green sofa, many look at her like she is nuts, but, she loves it, and it does work very well in her room.

I agree Kathie. I love seeing KSWL's beautiful home and her pupster reminds me of my Murphy!

Hvhay, I am excited for you and can't wait to see your room with your new pink sofa. The MBR in our other home is painted a deep raspberry and I have a pink armchair in the corner of the room.

If you like pink in rooms, look at Windsor Smith. I don't recall a pink sofa per se, but her rooms are very traditional an elegant IMHO, and she often throws in pink and pale blue somewhere, among the gilt chandeliers and cherry wood etc etc

OK, we are going to go for it! When the designer suggested pink
initially, I was pretty sure my husband would balk and I was ready to say no, but
he was actually on board with the idea. The other male in the household is not
quite 4 and has no idea yet that boys don’t like pink, lol. Here’s the sofa:

And the color (not quite as bold as the inspiration pic, in fact the internet swatch looks a little blah):

So the sofa will be pretty traditional but we will go more
modern with the other furnishings to balance it out. I will surely post a photo
    when we are done.

That is a gorgeous pale pink color! You may want to have it scotch guarded or microsealed as protection against your male household!

Kathy and H-K....Mr. Fluffy and I are blushing pink :-)

I like the sofa very much. I like that you are doing something different (my DH might let me go purple, but never pink) an d I hope you will post photos when you get it.

very pretty sofa and good for you!

    It's gonna be beautiful.

I think you may be cutting edge without knowing it! When I was looking for other photos today, I saw several pink sofas! I don't recall ever seeing one before, but maybe I wasn't paying attention to them?

You guys, my pink sofa came! I'm still getting used to it but I do love it. Here are the pix! (The room is not quite done yet.)

What tiny arms your sofa has. To me the color is not overwhelming. I think it fits the room just fine. Interesting green chair you have too.

What a lovely soft color pink! And the couch looks soft and comfy also. Makes me wanna sit down and curl up with a book. Enjoy your beauty!

As much as I love the *thought* of a pink sofa, don't know if I would/could ever make that purchase. Lisa, I absolutely love your pink check! I think that's a purchase I could make. The solid pink scares me a little, but it *is* pretty!

Your sofa is just lovely, the color is fabulous----I'm in love! Well done!

I want a pink couch! Lovely!

I really like it! It looks great in that room. I think the other colors in the room really work with the sofa as well. It looks like a happy and relaxing room.

Very pretty and I love the chair too. Could you tie the sofa and chair together a little more by including white pillows with green accents?

    last modified: 10 years ago

I like it! If you find yourself ever tiring of it, I think you can change paint color and illows and git it completely different looks. Have fun and enjoy!

By the way, we ran into issues in trying to order the sectional we'd planned on ordering and had to start over in finding a dificult size. Finally ordered it just about a week ago. The color changed to a deeper grey blue. Looking forward to seeing it. Hope I like it as much as yours.

Thanks all! The chair is new as well. It is the Printed Tillie from Anthropologie: Printed Tillie

It's hard to tell but it does have some pink in it:

Also, I'm not TOO worried about coordinating the colors because this is the view from the sofa:

The books really liven things up in there with every conceivable color. For fun, here's what the room looked like when we bought the house:

Lascatx, good luck with your sofa!

I love it, it's perfect. Thanks for showing us!

What a great bookcase too! I'd love to have a wall of books.

Very, very pretty. I can see it being coordinated with all kinds of colors./styles. Thanks for sharing!

I love it! Who makes that sofa? I'm obsessed with fuchsia and natural linen together right now. I would love a pink sofa, but my desire to stay married trumps pink. Well, maybe it's in my office.....;)

Love the sofa, but the pillows are not working for me.

Hi 1929Spanish! The sofa is made by Lee Industries. It is style #3278, their version of the English roll-arm. They make it in various different permutations--3 seats, 2 seats (what we chose), loveseat, chair.

Yes, those pillows are definitely a work in progress and may be returned. The sofa came with 2 matching pillows but it was a bit overwhelming with the matching pillows on it.

Your sofa is gorgeous!! And love the chair too. What a great room! Enjoy.

That makes sense. We have several chairs from Lee. They are really good and doing delicate scale where many others are not. Great job!
