Big or smaller well-placed fridge?

Having a dilemma. We are done with demo and trying to decide between: a 42 inch counter depth fridge placed on the opposite side of the island (8 foot wide island will be between sink and fridge) OR a 36 inch counter depth fridge within the "triangle."

we have a 36" counter depth in our vacation home which replaced a 36" regular fridge. we decided to take the chance since we dont keep much in that fridge. it really is smaller. so

1. if you dont have space for another fridge in your basement or garage and 2. you like to do a big shop every other week or longer, i'd take the 42" opposite the island.

but if you do have room for another fridge someplace, or you shop 2x a week anyway, take a chance on the 36" one.

It all depends on how you live.
We have a 36 inch counter depth. It is very adequate for our family of four, but we like to shop " fresh", we go to the grocery store 3-4 times a week.

Thank you both! Very helpful. We do a once a week shopping trip, are a family of 4 but will be moving our regular depth 30 inch to the basement. I really want the larger fridge but our current fridge is opposite our kitchen table and I can't stand it. So now I'm not sure what I'll be more frustrated with - a small fridge or having to walk around the island to get to the fridge. Lol

i really think if you are keeping the other fridge you'll be ok. its holidays that make things hard, even if you dont have the second one running all the time it will be backup.

Oh and we will also have a 24 inch undercounted beverage fridge. So that should help too.

UPDATE: we've also figured out that if we put the fridge across from the island (outside of the triangle) we can fit a 48 inch range (currently getting 36 inch range top and double oven) and an appliance garage. If we keep the 36 in fridge and range top on the same wall, we don't have the space for an appliance garage.
