Void corner with fillers.

I had an ikea design service - we just did away with it and carried them right over to the wall, but then we didn't have any on the next wall. Let's see if I can think of a hack....section uppers are 15 inches deep, so could you have the left hand 90 degree cabinet that reaches the wall be a 36-inch upper (is that available?), and then put a 15 inch cupboard door on that left side of it, and then have the right hand edge overlap the left, and then fill in with a plinth/deco strip? Does that make any sense? I would be tempted to rock the open shelving look in that corner, to be honest. Hope you find an answer :-)

Ikeafans had a good tutorial on how you could make a blind corner from any two upper cabinets in the old Akurum line, but I have no idea if that's still possible with the new Sektion cabinets.

You might be able to find the tutorial on the Wayback Machine. It was Dalborough's kitchen.

I was also planning to just do a blind corner. Seemed very simple.

Hijack: bbtrix, can you give me details on your microwave? What brand is it, and what size cabinet is it in? Did you do any modifications to make it fit?

It's a GE Spacemaker II. I bought it about a year ago but they no longer make that specific model. We didn't need to modify as it's intended to mount under a cab with the mounting kit. It fits in a 24" cab. DH did have to add filler below it.

So, it's not actually inside the cabinet? I'm hoping to find one that I can put inside.

bbtrix- so the void would be 15x15" with the new cabinets and then you used a filler? Is the filler caddy corner? It's hard to tell in the pics.

BTW- Your kitchen is lovely!

Bbtrix --- nice picture, and so much like what I'm planning! Right down to the sink and the open prep space under the window. We vary on the refrigerator side, and I won't have a sloped ceiling -- still, love it!

Gennifer, check out the spacemaker II installation instructions. They also have a trim kit for installing in cabinets.

Lowri, thank you! Yes, your void would be 15" x 15", and the trim will be perpendicular to each other. I believe my DH used plinth and a piece of a side panel. The trim on the right cabinet is only 7/8" yet the door opens just fine. My trim is not the same on both sides, but you can likely prevent that since you're in the planning stages.

mrspete, thanks! I love all the open prep space next to the range and at the window. I went back and forth whether to move the sink from under the window, and am so glad I did. My range used to be where my Breville oven sits. I hated prepping in that tiny corner. It's a joy to cook now. You will love your kitchen. Have you posted a plan yet? I don't recall seeing one.

Is there really so much more usable space with the Ikea upper cabinet compared to having the void? Do things just get lost in the corner cabinet edges?

Chinchette, Ikea offers a lazy susan for their wall corner cab.

I hadn't thought of that because the one I did was for an investment property. I can see that would be useful.
