Nothing really fills the bill exactly. Zoysia is going to be the best for tolerating foot traffic, but you will be better off getting sprigs or sod, not seed, especially if it's already getting traffic. Also, it likes more sun than that. As I already said, no grass will be perfect. I am basing this on a publication by the Alabama Cooperative Extension Service.

I can't think of any turf type of grass that will do well with that little direct sun, especially one that is available in seed.

Is this an area where foot traffic is unavoidable? If so, you might want to consider filling it with gravel or mulch instead of struggling with grass.

If this narrow strip is simply used as a foot path by lazy or careless folks wanting to save themselves a few steps (I'm guilty of that), then you might want to consider dwarf mondograss....Ophiopogon japonicum 'nana'. Tough stuff once established and does best in shady conditions.

Or, you could plant ornamental annuals/perennials and keep foot traffic away.
