Remove Kentile from flooring.

We have 100% vinyl Kentile flooring in kitchen and laundry room. I want to remove it. It is installed on plywood and glued down.How in the world do we get this stuff up. Thank you for any info.

How easy it will be to remove depends upon what adhesive was used. I have popped many a Kentille floor up and then sold the used tile on EBay.

Is this the old vinyl asbestos Kentile or something after the 1980s? Asbestos tile should be treated with caution. Test it if you are not 100% sure before you start the removal.

Generally VAT/VCT breaks quite easily while solid vinyl is harder to break. Newer solid vinyl bends quite a bit but it becomes more brittle as it ages. We used to glue Kentile down with epoxy, even outdoors. I hope your's isn't glued with epoxy.

We did epoxy gluedowns also...and worked with a heat gun and a hand roller to make the seams disappear. The early Kentile solid vinyls were glued down with a white or brown adhesive that smelled of ethanol and dried hard. Those are the ones that can be removed easily...the adhesive scraped off the backs and resold. Yes, Virginia, there is a market for vintage Kentile.
