I couldn't resist a drive by the riverside nurseries bc I was dropping my wife off at Ontario airport (she's an FA)... They had xquisite, queen amber, and other high-middle tier of jjs pricing..they charged jj list prices plus a little cream. BUT, the trees were gorgeous...great, symmetrical growth, and all looked very healthy...these were all 2-5 gal plants. I was surprised to see some obtusas and dsp mixed in there...The smaller pots are likely still rooting in vista. I emailed john and he said the 1gals etc. will be done rooting by 2nd week of May.

If this mix is an indication of the cultivars going out to big box stores, there is good reason to get excited...some fun treasure hunting awaits!

I'm waiting for the smaller ones in the big box stores, I can't afford the big ones at the rack rate.

I am with you Stephen...love a bargain and his plants are so great. All my JJ plants this season are sending up inflos on almost every tip.....YAHOO!

Is anyone going to JJ's Thailand Tour/openhouse?

so I am assuming that the regular nurseries get shipments first and then things go out to Lowes?

Going on jj tour is on my list for vacations...just need to convince my wife..."just". One of my sisters just got back from Thailand yesterday and her stories aren't helping my case :/

Rox-I think you're assumption is correct...the smaller ones from last years harvest that go to lowes etc. are still rooting; the only ones I've seen at nurseries so far are 2gal and up...more established plants.

Maybe next year I'll do it.

I'm depending on your inside contacts at Lowes to get a heads up on when shipments will arrive! LOL

JJ does usually post on FB when the shipments are going out, so that helps. I can't believe it's almost May again ... yeesh. I just checked FB - last year the nurseries got some of the earliest shipments (beginning of May), and Lowes/HD got them mid-May. Things seem to be running a little earlier this year, though!

our date in Ventura/Oxnard last year was May19

Last year, I saw a dozen or so jungle jack's at my local Lowe's. They were good sized 2-3ft. They were sitting there for a few weeks. Being a rookie, I didn't know any better and left them there. Hoping there will be some this year.
