We are buying a house that has Baltic Brown granite (or granite like) counters and I hate them. I would rather have marble or even butcher block, but a total remodel is not in the budget right now. I am planning on starting with painting the cabinets and changing out the hardware. Eventually, I would like to make the area where the sink and dishwasher are into a true island that opens up to the adjoining room and put a banquette and table in that room. So a few questions:

How hard is it to replace granite countertops with butcher block? Any other suggestions?

How hard/expensive would it be to go ahead and make that sink area into a real island?

Backsplash ideas if I have to stick with the baltic brown granite?

Your granite makes a strong statement, so I would go neutral with the backsplash. What I really like about picture 1 is the cabinet hardware and kitchen faucet. I usually like chrome but this faucet with the granite and hardware is a knock out, in my opinion! Your other questions, even if you had offered pictures may be hard to address. Is the wall load bearing? How was granite installed? Those are just two novice questions, as I am not a contractor.

I bought a house with Baltic Brown too....and like you....hate it!!! Did you do remodel yet? I'm either going to try to like it and redo the kitchen's paint and put up a tile backsplash....or find a money tree and replace the granite.

kkendell - there were 2 episodes of Property Bros. where they kept the Baltic brown and updated the backsplash to a very pale green subway tile. One episode used ceramic and another used glass. Both were beautiful with the Baltic brown...
