Retractable window walls for cold weather climates?

We recently purchased some land on the lake in Coeur d'Alene, ID and will be thinking of parceling the land and then building our dream vacation home there. As I live in Southern California where there is a prevalence of these retractable window wall systems, I am wondering about their effectiveness in cold weather climates? Any advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

I always wondered how one would keep the bugs out.

I don't see how they are practical for cold weather!
