This is a designer screen shade by Hunter Douglas. What appears to be a valance is actually the cartridge that the roller shade fits into. To be fully recessed takes about 3 1/2 inches. If you notice the picture closely the shade does project outside of the window which is common. The cartridge is wrapped with the same material as the shade. Although it appears to be flat the cartridge is contoured.

Thank you for this information. What lift mechanism is this? Is the cartridge for a power lift larger than the cartridge for a LiteRise? Is the cartridge size smaller for a narrow (27") vs wide (81") shade?

All my windows are 60 3/4" long, but I am trying to see if it would be better to split the shades for each large (80 1/2 x 60 3/4") three segment casement window I have in my sunroom. I do have 4 1/2" of depth, but want to be certain the cartridge would fit within the window depth, since I plan to allow up to 1" away from the window to avoid the window locking mechanism. The power wand fits behind the cartridge. The cartridge is the same size. I would recommend the same size cartridge for both the 27" and the 80 1/2". I feel it would add uniformity. Hunter Douglas is coming out with a new motorize lifting system in a couple of months, if you can wait on it , that's what I would do. It will be better pricing. I will check the exact depth needed for the shad to be fully recessed, but I don't think that if it projects out a little that it would be bad.
