If you don't reduce the pressure suitable for the drip line, when you turn on the system, the connection will blow apart.

How about capping off the offending sprinkler then installing a drip line on its own. Depending upon our goal, you can run it off an exterior spigot.

I'd recommend convert the whole zone over to drip (cap all the other heads) and pipe over new heads from neighboring zones to compensate where you lost a needed head. it's really a bad idea to have drip and other sprinklers on the same zone.

if you kept some of the spray heads, likely you would have severe over watering where those were, and/or under watered drip areas. you would risk blowing the fittings off your drip, or having your heads not rise, or potentially both.

I have run drips off an existing sprinkler system to augment some trees that were not getting enough water. A mixed system is far from optimal but can be accomplished. The pressure in the sprinkler zone was low enough that I didn't need a pressure reducer for the drip line. If I capped off all the other sprinklers on the zone I would have definitely had to puta pressure reducer in.

Mixing a zone is not recommended by any professional irrigation organization that I am aware of. that said, you can successfully get water to where it needs to go in an incredible variety of ways that arguably work just as well as what the "pros" recommend.
