drip systems are designed to be UV resistant, meaning they can exist above grade, but there is absolutely no harm in burying most of, or in some cases all of a drip system. some products have specialized emitters that resist root invasion. the biggest downside to burying drip systems is finding them again to make sure the emitters are still working :D
