Quartzite is often harder than granite, and I have it (Fantasy Brown) in my kitchen. Why did they tell to you to beware?There are also images of it if you Google it. Some shown HERE.

Thanks -I actually meant Fantasy Brown...my head is spinning...can't get it straight - do you have any issues with Fantasy Brown (i.e. durability, cleaning, etching?)

ck_squared did you do the leathered look or the polished look?

I agree with ck_squared. Mine is fine, and I tested the sample before making my decision. No etching, no staining. Mine is leathered, which was recommended by the stone yard for this stone. There are many posts here that talk about Fantasy Brown, if you do a search in Kitchens.

I actually have a sample of honed fantasy brown that I tested and other than soapstone, it's the only sample I have that came through spotless and no etching. Wherever you get it from though, I would advise testing your own sample.

I have to admit I was drooling at the slabs of it and it's the only thing besides soapstone that made my head turn.

The fabricator I am working with described it has a very hardy marble, and I think that is accurate... The sample I had did not stain with oil or anything else, but it will etch if you leave something acidic on it for a very very long time. My sample was honed.

Most people that use it in irl report no etching, so my guess is that you have to leave a puddle of lemon juice on the counter overnight for that to happen...
