2015 May Block Lotto

Welcome to the May Block Lotto!

The lotto is open to all, and new quilters are encouraged to
participate. You will learn much and have fun doing it. Typically, the winner
receives enough blocks to complete a nice size quilt. It could be YOU!

Here's the drill:

- you can send 1, 2 or 3 blocks

- all blocks must measure 12.5inches x 12.5inches with no
more than 1/4" variation please. With your blocks include name, mailing
address, forum name and $1 to cover postage for the winning blocks

- if possible, either attach your name to the back of each
block or write your name in the seam allowance with a fabric pen so the winner
knows who made the block (this is not a requirement, just a request)

- all blocks received by the last day of the month will be
included in the lotto drawing

- you will have 1, 2 or 3 chances to win, depending on how
many blocks you've sent in.

Blocks are to be mailed to Linda. She will arrange the
collection and dispersal to the winner. If you need her mailing address, you
may request it by sending her a message at linda at schultz-assoc.com

MAY Shoo Fly 12-1/2" - White with Lime
greens and purple. You have the option to make the center squares and
"flies" all purples or greens, or a mix like the one on the upper
right in the picture.

Have fun and share your pictures in this posting.

Here's mine. It is a very simple block - great for any new quilters who have wanted to join the lotto but were hesitating. Come join the fun.

The corner blocks are really dark purple. The photo makes them look black.

    And three from Ontario!

Three from Texas are on their way with April & June.

Three of the 4 will be on their way! (this is an all-time first for me....lotto blocks done on the 1st of the month!!! LOL....now to get them in the mail!)

Pretty blocks, Beth. You seem to keep one from every month for yourself. Are you planning to do a sampler quilt with all of them?

Yes, lois...at some point in the future. I've kept the 4th block every month for probably close to two years, now...I'll count them next time I put one into the box (a big flat unused pizza box!!! LOL). My problem is that I love making the blocks, but putting them together into a quilt is a whole nother story....maybe it's just because that is an area that I haven't yet studied very much. But I'm sure glad that someone suggested to keep one block per month back for myself. SOMEday I'll have a quilt that I made!!

I got another package today from Jennifer in Georgia, blocks for four months. Lovely blocks. We are up to 13 now so hope we get more.

Linda, my blocks were mailed on Friday the 22nd, you should have them by mid week.

I feel like I hit the jackpot myself today. The mailman brought three packages of blocks, from Beth, Patty and Valarie. All are lovely blocks, ladies, and we're going to have us a winner with this bunch. Won't be long till we draw that name. Thanks to all of you who have participated.

WOW! It looks like we are going to have lots of blocks in this month's drawing! I will post the June lotto so you can start posting your pictures and blocks since we are quickly winding down this month. Thanks again, Linda for all your help in gathering and sending out the blocks each month.

My blocks went in the mail on Tuesday. Thanks

I've received Nancy's and that makes 24 blocks. If there are any more in transit, let me know before we do our drawing.

This is a nice bunch of blocks for our winner. Thanks to all of you who have contributed.

Sorry to be so late, ladies. Had a volunteer job at the county fair today.

DH drew out the name of Jennifer from Georgia. Don't remember your forum name, Jennifer, but I will get these blocks off to you tomorrow. Congratulations!

    Oh Nice!! Congrats, Jennifer...pretty blocks!

Congratulations, Jennifer. So many blocks! I see a wild and crazy green and purple print with those. You will have fun with them.

Congratulations Jennifer....great collection of blocks...have fun!

    Way to go Jennifer.

    Congratulations!!!

I didn't know I had won, until the blocks arrived in the mail. Such a fun surprise! The picture above doesn't show off all the detail in the blocks. They are really, really nice and the different fabrics used are just beautiful. As a beginner, the best part is seeing other blocks up close (especially the backside). You all are so talented. But it's also a bit overwhelming. I hope I do them justice!!!

I have found that sometimes you just have to let them sit for a while until inspiration strikes or until you find the perfect fabric to use for sashing or borders. You'll do fine, Jennifer. And what a great surprise to find them in the mail when you didn't know you had won.
