Do you HAVE to have a ceiling fan?

For your house, I'd pick the nickel and wood one, without the light kit.

I would go with a lager fan. What are your dimensions? I also would consider having only one fixture. The island lights and chandelier look rather close. I will send you better fan options.

I like the Minka ones (Wave is one of my favorites). From what my electrician said, they are also well made

This is my pick. It's 56", which would look visually better than a 52" in that space, I would go with a dark finish opposed to nickel to compliment the fireplace.

Stay away from the "Wave" one...I have a similar one and it doesn't move the air...if you intend on using it to help cool down the room. Looks great as a decorative piece though.

Where on the ceiling is the fan going? The bigger the better and if you can get five blades for movement. My daughter went with a huge fan with five blades and a globe light and it pretty much gave the room presence.....go as big as you can with fat blades; make a statement.

the wave is great! do it! ive used it in beach homes, it blends to most style because of the wood. that being said you have kichler pendants, kichler dining fixture, and kichler makes fans....

HI -- I like the first fan in the picture . A learned having a 5 blade fan is best . When you install it get the electrician to wire the light separate from the fan function and snug it as close to the ceiling as possible . You have to watch your sight lines . Right now looking across the dining area to the kitchen there are too many things hanging down. If you get a bigger fabulous chandelier for the dining room then I feel you do "not" need the hanging fixtures in the kitchen . We have had a ceiling hugger fan for years that has the light and fan wired separately and it's great ... can't do without it in the summer .

it has to be pre wired to work the light separate, as to the wall switch, but all remotes will work them independently. but yes if you want a hard wire wall switch its the way to go.

3 or 5 blades really isn't a the question, its how many feet of cubic air either moves (will be stated) but realistically they will all move air, as long as they have a good blade pitch. so dont fear that in your choice. heck i have 30 inch fans that will move as much air as a 52 inch.

i also dont feel you need to hug it to the ceiling, right now the space is bare, so everyone is looking up or at the lighting...once life happens it will be a nice flow in here.

Ceiling fans are the best thing since electricity. Uses less electricity, are quiet, and are perfect for air movement for a room with a fireplace or for a bedroom when you need quiet. The slope on the blades usually determines the amount of air movement. I have one small fan I bought about 35 years ago in my family room which moves more air than a newer five blade larger one I put in a bedroom. Pay attention to quality & it does not necessarily move more air the closer to the ceiling it is hung. The fans you showed in the photos are beautiful. I have four ceiling fans in my house & couldn't be cooler in the summer.

I do not care for the hanging light for over the dining table or the pendants as they are so close & are so different.

The chandelier will likely be taken down and capped. The lights over the bar make me happy so they are staying :) Great ideas on the fans...

put clear bulbs in the kitchen pendants, the edison style look best in those.

Flair... yes. We just closed yesterday.. Builder bulbs in there.. Will get the Edison Bulbs.. Table is coming....soon I hope!

We splurged & bought white BAF Haiku fans - they are so minimalist & create a pleasant breeze. The drawbacks are that they are expensive, do not turn both clockwise & counterclockwise, and do not have a wall switch, only a remote with a sheath you can screw onto the wall. But once we turned them on, we were so pleased we wanted to replace every other fan in the house with them!

Hunter fans are hard to beat...old name...1887-ish.

Forgot about the Haiku fans,,those are nice. We are considering that one or the wave for the basement (I'm not a fan of ceiling fans, but basements need one for moving the air)

1. We have Monte Carlo fans throughout our home. Very sleek and they come in a lot of finishes. We choose to forego the light kit that was offered.
   

They also come with different rod lengths which can be useful.

I think either fan will work once you remove the hanging fixture. What direction do you want to go with furnishing? More modern ? Choose the Wave. More transitional? Choose the Benito . Instead of capping the chandelier , you could possibly replace it with another can light or a flush ceiling light, but once the table is in you may want to find another chandelier that is more to your taste. Congratulations! Beautiful home and I love the kitchen pendants!

looking at the style of your room, choose the simplest fan possible; several styles on photos. lighting should be elsewhere. the addition of lighting to a fan is superfluous and unattractive. you have plenty of ceiling lighting now. i would remove the chandelier until you decide where you will place your dining table. then relocate a new chandelier to that place. another suggestion would be to replace the recessed cans in the ceiling with low voltage, high quality LED lighting. if all the ceiling cans are on the same switch, think about re-circuiting to 2 or more switches, or at least get a dimmer on them. photos also of ceiling lighting; here is a home where i converted 62 recessed cans to low voltage lighting fixtures. there is much new technology in energy efficient lighting. find a good lighting designer to help you.

I vote dump the ceiling fan, prettier less chance it will give you what you want. I had them in every room, ability to do well, was highly variable, high ceilings are definitely bad. I suffer from heat and lack of air movement a lot. We went and got a stupid cheap box fan, it worked great, you can position them anywhere, you can suck air out rather then blowing at you, you can stack in the garage or put in closets during off season, great at distributing warm air too. Even clip on little fans can be amazing. Up near the ceiling brings all the heat down. Cleaning is a breeze too, take off the grill and spray it off. Power to traditional fans!!!

I agree with Lavish Interior Design. Perfect amount of modern with the right colors...It's exactly the fan I had in my head but couldn't remember the brand or where I saw it!

Julie, no matter how I have this oriented on my phone, it attachs inverted. This is our Minka Aire in DR. We've had it over 5 yrs. & love it. The DR is dark this time of day from shadows off rear of house saw so I have lights on fan dimmed. The upper lights & glode at bottom are separately dimmable. Great for formal dining atmosphere.

Relsab, our ceiling fan is smack over our DR table. We use it all the time in the warmer months and have experienced neither the cooling of food nor disturbing of candles. Of course, with people at the table, it's on low, so no hurricane force winds, just enough to get air movement through the sidelights on the patio doors. Candles don't provide enough light by which to dine unless you put so many on the table there's no room for food, so the dimmable lights supplement. (New pic w/ mantel lights on attached. Julie, ditto remarks on Houzz. I've found lots of ideas I never would have come up with on my own. A couple of them even survived vetting by my wife and our CKD!

Julie, BTW, I ran the pic through PhotoShop Elements this AM and that fixed it. It seems to know the orientation of the camera, and corrects.

Design SI hit the nail on the head........a Big Ass Fan in the Haiku style!!! We are putting one in our master bedroom (coffering the ceiling up in the center) and replacing our old Hunter fan in the kitchen (hangs from an 11 foot cathedral ceiling).

Bruce Crawford when you take a picture with your iPad the button needs to be on the right side otherwise your picture will be inverted. I had the same problem but eventually I figured it out.

I just purchased the most magnificent fan EVER! Pricey but worth it!! You can get it with or without a light in it. It's sleek and beautiful. A work of art in the room, not just a fan. It's by "Big Ass fans". Just spectacular and engineered like nothing you've ever seen.

hs, the Haiku fans have an optional wall control, not just a remote. And they do reverse direction but that feature is only found on the wall mounted control (and it's a separate control, not just the remote that's stuck on the wall). They also have what's called SENSEME technology that allows the fan to self-adjust while you're sleeping to the room temperature, etc. I can't wait to get ours!

Have a remote control installed.
