Reactivating Old Irrigation Well

We just purchased a house built in 1947 that has an old well in the backyard. Looks like about a 2-2.5" well pipe. In conjunction with the well pipe coming out of the ground there is a four station Fimco Hydro-indexing flow valve. We have no idea how long the well has been inactive, but suspect it has been a few years at least. This is in Boynton Beach Florida and water table is believed to be pretty shallow. We are trying to make this a DIY project but a little new to us.

Question: How do we go about deciding what size pump we need? When I look at pumps in Lowes, they have them from 1/2 to 2 HP.

I'm also guessing we need some sort of control box to run the whole thing. The pump will/ was inside an outside utility room you can see the walls in the pics. thanks for any help.
