Can you show us more pictures of the space? How does it connect to other rooms? Do you have furniture you want to reuse in the space? Are those glass door bookcases built in? Do they have to stay? What is your style - do you have any inspiration photos? What is your budget?

Although the furniture leans traditional you said the stone looks dated. Sounds like you don't want just a fireplace redo, but perhaps a room makeover. Let the wall and fireplace be a dynamic statement but yet doesn't have to be pronounced and you can rearrange the furniture to focus on the "entertainment" wall.
However, if traditional is your thing and you want to get a great look, just lighten and freshen it up like the last image below. The angled ceiling doesn't have to work against your effort.
