Hello Allan, it is not recommended to cut the half columns because they are tapered and it will alter the appearance. The only place the column can be cut is the base. The half columns are hollow and so it would need to be placed directly against the wall. We also have whole columns (see here: [Whole Fluted Column w/ Plain capital and base[(https://www.houzz.com/products/fluted-whole-column-set-plane-capital-f1-prvw-vr~10507294?lid=3041475)) if that would work better when transitioning to another room.
