Mulberry Tree in trouble, need help please!

Hello all.

The title puts it lightly.

Recently we've been having terrible storms in New South Wales. Fast winds, heavy rains and even hail. Due to this, half our mulberry tree (bears dark purple fruit) was bent down to the ground by the storm. The part that was damaged was the thick, main branch.

We called our landlord to help. While we were away he ended up cutting the entire branches, and leaves along them!! Now there is a sad remnant of a once lush, beautiful tree with all of its branches cut. Only some remain - but they have no leaves.

Is it possible to keep the tree safe considering winter is just around the corner?

What should I do to protect the branches and cover the wounds?

Will the leaves even grow back again?

Is the tree gone for good?

I can provide pictures if you wish.

I would really appreciate your help, the tree is very dear to me, and I need all the information I could get.

I really would greatly appreciate your advice!!
