When in doubt, I turn to stone (not literally, of course!) I found myself with too many mismatched pedestals and fountain basins. One I turned into a water feature using stone to keep down the splashing and create sound; the other I turned into a "house of sedum".

My favorite nursery has river rock/slabs, etc., anywhere from .19 - .35 cents per lb. It's my latest obsession, and they're not fussy at all about what zone you're in ;-D

At this point, I have about decided to glue on "orchid moss" (long fiber sphagnum moss). From experience, I know that if kept moist, spores will germinate and there will eventually be some green moss growing, plus fern spores also will germinate. And I will also enjoy the shagginess!

I did decide to glue on orchid moss. Today I coated 3 out of the 4 walls, plus the rim of the sink, with the moss. It looks good - let's see how it holds up to the weather. The glue is supposed to be waterproof.

That blooming sempervivum has now vanished in the July heat, though it left a few offsets. Some other semps are still hanging in there, much to my delight, but the sedums are going crazy and so are the thymes.
