Fear not! You might find that painting your walls and changing out your light bulbs is the way to go. The current warm toned wall color (at least, that is how it looks on my monitor) is fighting the cabinet gray, and your natural lighting is warming up the wall color even more. Look for a very cool tone for your walls, and also, make sure that the light bulbs you are using aren't too warm in color either.

I love how the backsplash bridges the two colors of the cabinets. Dare I suggest suggesting taking the color of backsplash and painting walls that color!

They look more grey and although it may not be your exact shade, they still look really nice. If you painted the walls surrounding them white to flow with the backsplash maybe that would help, as the walls are also influencing how they appear. Also wondering if you added a grey/white runner, it may pull out the grey in them.

Hmm well I painted the walls SW Rainwashed which is a very light blue green color which will draw in my blue-ish with a hint of teal dining chairs...I also have new pendant lights to install that will add a lot more artificial light.
I'm pretty set on the wall color I think I would rather change the cabinets...if it comes to that. Here is maybe a better pic of the walls, it's hard to photograph!

It's the craziest thing, the lowers look blue because of how the light hits them, it's all the same color! And the backsplash is just white. The walls in here are so open, there's no cut off point, if I change 1 they all have to be :(

Can we see the whole space. You can just paint the cabinet wall as an accent in some designs! Or even wallpaper! Perhaps some art work you hang ( using Command strips) between the base and upper cabinets against backsplash to pull them together?

I don't think the tones on the walls and cabinets match. It all looks okay, but changing the walls to a cooler shade, or changing the cabinets to a warmer shade would look better IMO. Both look nice, so which you'd rather change is personal preference. But for me the walls are a nicer color than the cabinets (though they are obviously more work to change) because of the backsplash and countertop. But maybe if you could sand them and go more greige than stark grey.

Rug found on Houzz Shop grey rugs. Also, look at sisal rugs since you have kids...we have one in the kitchen that doesn't show a thing and we replace easily enough when worn, etc. as they are so inexpensive.

Well my table and everything isn't in here yet as we are moving in tomorrow but here is the entire kitchen (only partially put together) I put a pic of our dining table and chairs in our old house in for reference. And our new pendant lighting that needs to be installed. Excuse the disaster!

At this point I feel like first crying, then getting our move over with...then completely changing the cabinets. Just not what I was going for at all and I obsessed on the color for days!
My 4 year old just walked in the kitchen and said why is our kitchen blue?! Sigh. Gotta love honest 4 yr olds!

I'm not familiar with Behr colors, I do love the rain washed color. If wall color stays look for a gray with less of a blue undertone. Get your move done & then reevaluate.

I have had the same problem . I know that people see color differently ( it's a biological thing) . I have learned that it's helpful to pay attention to the name of the paint as well as what I'm seeing. Doesn't help you now but maybe for future choices. My last word of advice is maybe choosing a pale gray rug and curtains to bring out the gray and trick the eye into believing it's gray. just a thought.

I think if you paint the working portion of kitchen white, it may make a big difference..I feel that is the bigger problem then the bluish shade in the cabinets.

In the end it's just paint. You do have a very nice kitchen so don't feel too bad. I can't tell you the number of times I've put up a beige and later thought it was pink. Or a green only to think it now looked yellow on my walls.

I think it's smart to finish the move and give yourself some time to adjust to the space. If you still don't like it paint a new gray on a large piece of poster board and hold it up in different locations and at different times of the day to test how the light and other elements affect it. Then tape it to a cabinet door and live with it for a day or two to be sure it doesn't change on you.

Your wall color is making the top cabinets look olive green, and your flooring and backsplash make the lowers look blue...that's the root of your problem. Neither look gray.

Your home is beautiful. I love both your cabinet color and your wall color but agree that they don't work well together. I know you love the wall color, but it would be much easier to paint the walls than re-paint the cabinets. I would start with a new paint color for the walls in the kitchen that will compliment the cabinet color. If you paint it white, light gray, or a very neutral greige, it will make a huge difference. It would be a great start. Maybe you can find another place to use the rainwash in your home, but it is not working next to your cabinets.

Yeah...to re-do your cabinets properly it's going to be a lot more work (remove, sand, prime, spray, re-install) than repainting a partial wall. You would probably only need to re-paint that one wall that the cabinets are physically on, and you could keep your paint color on all the other walls.

Someone mentioned paint close to backsplash or counter? Well here's one which to me picks up pale tone of wood. Btw I like your cabinet color and light-ish floor, which contrasts with darker brown 'behind' it... yes leave cabs as they are, unless you think you'd like true grey with brown.... I think it would be drab. A while ago, soft teal and soft brown together in fabric, etc. was sold a lot in stores - a fresh combo, but a bit neutral too. :)

I think that once you move in you may actually like your cabinets. They really are beautiful and having a blue kitchen is a little more unique than the grey that everyone else is doing this year. You have shades of blue in your beautiful artwork.

No question they have a blue tone but they are a nice color. The wall paint is definitely fighting with them and, I too, would change that rather than the cabinets. I agree you need a neutral greige wall paint and I'd take a look at BM edgecomb gray or SW accessible beige. Repainting the walls will transform your nice kitchen. This it just another one of the "situations" that crops up when building, but this one is easy to fix.

The picture from your last house is kind of dark, but I'm not seeing a blueish tone in the dining chairs.

Also my table is solid walnut top so I had wanted my "gray" cabinets to mesh well with brown. Most of my decor on this level is brown/tan/diff shades of aqua blue

Look at the picture below and notice that the walls are painted a light blueish gray. I know Sherwin Williams has some great colors that would work nicely with your beautiful cabinets. Seems like you like color verses white walls. I think this color would work nicely with your dining chairs and artwork. Good luck and keep us posted!

Oh, it looks like the chairs are a slate blue rather than a blue green. Have you seen them next to the cabinets yet (I think you said you're just moving in)? I'm thinking they might be quite nice with the cabinet color and walnut (I have natural walnut floors so I'm very familiar with the color of walnut) will be stunning with that cabinet color - even better than with the gray you had in mind.

Are the bottom ones a different color? Did you put sample paint on to test. If too blue yes you can change talk to paint store. I like the tops ones in pic.

They are def not slate blue. It's hard to get a good pic. I have them paired with a lot of teals/aquas and they look great.
It's definitely something to think about with putting a lighter gray on the wall. I'm not actually super into gray lol. I had visions of a lovely gray that was neutral enough to go with all my aquas and blues and Browns...I had a really nice greige sample but thought it wasn't enough contrast on the light floors. It probably would have been the better choice. Hindsight is always 20/20!

You can mix up a simple glaze/toner with waterborne urethane and a little paint . Brush/spray some out on a sample board to slightly change the blue tone . In the end you still have to redo the cabinets. Anyway you choose try make a sample board to look at , like a previous comment mentioned.

At this point in time, better to just move in and finish with all the furniture placement, etc....who knows...your other items, window coverings, lighting, etc. may just change the lighting enough to even out the color in the cabinets...perhaps to a new shade even :) One other thought I had was to paint the area on the wall only, under your seating area/shelf in the very 1st picture you posted, the same green as your upper walls and see if that breaks the "blue" tint on the bottoms.

I actually love the color of the cabinets. I would paint the walls. It won't be so in your face blue then.

I think it's a beautiful kitchen and the cabinet color looks very nice, just not with the wall color. I think you made great choices for the kitchen.

Look how pretty this kitchen is with its gray/blue cabinets! Yours will look much like this.

Change the lighting to a yellow color (warm white). It will pull out the blueness of the grey.

Please do not try to repaint the cabinets. As sooz001 suggested the color will change with a different lighting in the room. Get moved in, put up drapes, add some accessories if you have not installed under cabinet LED lighting do so after checking with a lighting expert for the proper type of lighting needed for the room. You have a very beautiful kitchen and I feel confident that with adding your other colors and furniture to the room, you will actually be very happy indeed with the color. Be glad it isn't gray (I'm so sick of everyone painting everything gray.)

I know you don't want to hear it but I would change the wall colour to a cooler white. I think the warm shade of green on the walls is fighting with the cool gray cabinets making them appear blue. Just my opinion!

I'd like to changes my position. I still like the wall color, but after you posted a pic of the whole room, I like the cabinet color as well. And it's much easier to paint a wall. I still think a light greige is the answer, but now I say paint the walls not the cabinets. Your home is lovely though so either way, I'm sure it'll work out.

I agree with other comments ~ change the wall color. If they are light and bright your current cabinet color will really "pop"! You don't want to start putting multiple layers of paint on your cabinets. You will lose the definition on the insets of the cabinet fronts. There are other issues too that will arise in time.

If you are still feeling that the lowers look more blue, you could always later change those to a much darker shade of the same color -- two tone is in. :) Good luck with your beautiful kitchen!

Honestly, if the cabinets in that first picture are all painted the same color and come out looking so strikingly different (greenish-gray versus army blue), then I don't think there's a fix -- lighting is going to defeat any attempt to perfect the color. Crazy.

For waht it's worth, in your whole-kitchen shots the color looks fine and your kitchen looks great. Maybe you need some sheers to mute the natural light a bit and some time to stop noticing. Otherwise this could make you crazy.

Just move in, enjoy your new place, and give it some time. I agree with others--way too much to redo the cabinets!

You just need a different wall color. I would go with white and add some red accents, then paint the side of the peninsula that faces the table the same color as the walls. I would also paint that corner cabinet over by the stove the wall color. It would provide a little relief from the gray and add a little pizzazz to the area Good luck, don't let it overwhelm you.

I suggest changing the upper cabinets to the same color as the back splash. It will absorb some of the brightness and diffuse the blue. Adding blinds to the Windows will help in addition to the lights

Update -- did you get this fixed?

On my screen, your base cabinets look blue; your counter top and back splash look white; your overhead cabinets look gray and the wall above your overhead cabinets look green -- the walls across the room by the door look gray..

You really should consider repainting the base cabinets the same color as your overhead cabinets.

You really should reconsider repainting your walls a pale gray or stone white -- maybe a sandstone (white but without a pinkish or greenish or blueish hue).
