New twist to problem today. Threaded area is not long enough to use pipe and GC wants to use only silicon to attach air switch to counter. Says they do it often and it is fine. What say you GW? This is my first granite and first air switch. I've waited 30 yrs to get this.

Have your fabricator make a plywood jig with a hole the same size as the existing. Hot melt glue the jig to the granite and redrill the hole in a position that would allow clearance, but still have the escutcheon of the switch cover the elongated hole. Soak the hot melt off the jig and granite with denatured alcohol. The switch must be secured mechanically per manufacturer's instructions; he can silicone if he prefers in addition. Insist; I don't care how long he's been doing it otherwise.

Thank you for your response! I will share this with the GC! This morning he said beside silicone he could probably attach a spring clamp under the sink side. I just wasn't warm to it being only silicone. I like your fix better.

Yup. You are right Joseph Corlett--doesn't sound great. I don't know how people remodel more than 1 kitchen in a lifetime. And I don't know how you can deal daily with fixing so many botched counter / sink installs. My hat is off to you! Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with GW. People like me really need and value your advice.

This reno started out with optimism and energy to make the temporary kitchen an "adventure" and decisions are just opportunities. It's all wearing thin now with the little things that crop up (and the not so little things like counter problems). And I know I do not have it bad at all.

Tomorrow will be a fresh day with fresh energy to deal with it.

As long as people keep picking contractors on price and as long as contractors continue to take shortcuts, I'll have plenty of work.

I have the same problem. 3cm granite. Blanco sink that is undermounted. The sink plus granite means its too thick for the insinkerator shaft. Its about 2 threads too short. I wish I would have ordered the undermount only sink. But too late. Its already installed.

I cant figure out a solution.

See if the first solution I recommended in this thread would work; it's the easiest. If not, the edge of the Blanco undermount can be ground with a laminate trimmer router with a straight bit freehand.

I have 3 cm quartz, an undermount sink, and an Insinkerator air switch, which all work fine. Which part of it doesn't fit?
