Do lilacs need full sun all year to bloom?

I understand that lilacs should have full sun, but does that mean all year? The northern side of our house is in the shade in the winter, but as the sun gets higher in the sky, it's in the sun all day. Is that enough sun for the lilacs to bloom -- full sun in the late spring, summer and early fall? Since I just got a couple of lovely little lilacs because of the wonderful scent, I'd like to plant them where they'll keep blooming in the future.
