I think fireplaces in kitchens can be a wonderful amenity. They up the coziness of the space nicely and provide a relaxing place to sit and enjoy a beverage or have a discussion with a friend or family member. One of my friend's had a set-up similar to this one in their home. They spent a lot of time in there.

I'm wondering about fireplaces - or indoor grills - that can be used for cooking. I "get" the functionality of a pizza oven, but would an indoor open fire put smoke into the room? Can it be used for grilling veggies, et.al.? Do you have any comments from people about the usefulness, beauty, safety.....?

Most fireplaces are designed to be naturally ventilated so the smoke would exit through the chimney.

Hi plattgail - oven used inside the home should be of a "commercial" standard with the relevant safety certifications. The design of the oven will naturally ventilate the smoke up through a flue. And "Yes!" the oven can be used for to cook anything - just like the old days. Veggies are great when roasted in a pan. Steaks and fish really absorb the smoked flavor as well. Thanks Sara ! I am getting more and more interested in this. Just one more question please? We are in Florida - is this fireplace going to put a lot of heat into the kitchen area? (This might be great in the winter, but our summers can be warm. )

Hi Gail - No it won't or at least our ovens won't emit that kind of heat. These are very well designed (patented) and well insulated ovens. Our biggest home market (for indoors too) is Texas, and trust me it gets hot here as well.
