There's no way to know if it will continue to ripen or if it will just abort and drop off. I would just leave it for a while yet and see. Chances are it won't make it but you never know.

The hip is a piece of fruit. It could have split due to the number or size of the seeds inside being too large a volume for the hip size. Or, it may have split due to water quantity variations. Those are the two more common reasons. And, if you want to plant those seeds, wait until the appropriate time or until the hips shows you it's ready, then plant them.
