In some other posts by Houzz customers, Showplace does not come out very well in terms of quality, dealer follow-through, cabinet and door quality, delivery, or appearance after use. See Houzz Forums or discussions on kitchen cabinets. Crystal offers custom and semi-custom options, and is much more highly regarded in terms of quality by customers and kitchen designers alike.

Features I would look for:

1) the option for all-plywood cabinet boxes over particleboard. (I like plywood but some like particleboard; the option gives you the choice to upgrade).

2) cabinet backs at least 1/2" thick.

3) twin I-beam construction rather than plastic corner braces.

4) Blumotion full extension soft close drawer glides.

5) 6-way adjustable hinges.

6) pantry ROTs that are vertically adjustable, preferably without tools.

7) wide assortment of cabinet functions and interior organizers.

8) customizable sizes for height, width and depth.

9) if planning to use granite countertop, I prefer 3/4" base cabinet sides for stronger support, especially if particleboard. Some would say overkill but I like to exceed minimum requirements.

Things like dovetail drawers are expected.

It is imperative to get quality installers. Installers, especially for trim, can made decent cabinets look great or expensive cabinets look like junk.

Okay, well this is not an easy task, however, I will try to explain it the best of my ability. These days the majority of cabinets are bad quality. I would invest in a nice set that is completely custom. Also, ask them if you can borrow a sample door and feel it... Is it heavy? Is it solid? And don't back down on on quality standards. ;) Others have also mentioned for thing to look for so I thought I would try yo simplify things a bit.
