usually the best choices are small leaf tropical plants . They love low light warmth and humidity which is the environment most terrariums provide without a LOT of intervention Also size will be a serious consideration .

maybe some small ferns ,mosses of selaginellas ?? Or maybe some small tropical sundews?? Another might be some emergent water plants ?? Another might be a piece of driftwood with lichens. Interesting container hope you post some pix when you decide?? gary

The cacti/succ people were right about the succs.

Gary is "spot on" with his suggestion for use of mosses or Selaginella. While pygmy or the small rosette sundews should fit, I don't know if you would be able to give them enough light without overheating that container. Could always give the dews a try though.

If you could somehow get an interesting piece of rot resistant wood in there, you might be able to make an interesting mini-landscape.

I'll have to go check out our local nursery for some tropical plants. I thought of taking this to them and get an opinion. I am pretty new to gardening in general. We are in the desert, so drought happy plants are everywhere. I'm not sure I've seen many tropical plants, but I also can't say I've looked.

My thought was to try a bamboo in there, but then I came to ask y'all.

You mean like the so called "Lucky" bamboo?? All the bamboos I'm familiar with keep trying to eat my house lol I've heard of some very minature types but have never seen them . Another option might be some of those very tiny Sinningias (gesneriads ) "Worlds smallest flowering plants " I grow a lot of the gesneriads but have never even seen these types . Good luck gary

I have two very similar terrariums for two of my micro miniature african violets. Mine is just a bit shorter and a bit wider. My other two micro miniatures I keep in a sphere shaped terrarium.

I got my micro miniatures from Rob's Violet Barn, and I love them! They were packaged with such care, and they look so cute in the terrariums.

As for lucky bamboo - I have some. It grows slow, but fairly tall. You might end up with a ship-in-a-bottle situation if you leave it in there too long, haha.
