Carpet for Lori's House

Not sure this is a design dilemma or which category it belongs in. Replaced our carpet two years ago with what I thought was the same great high quality carpet we have had for ten years in our family room -- obviously the quality was not the same. I am wanting to replace all of our carpet at this point, but do not want to make a mistake. Where can I get info or how can I determine a carpet quality? Do I want wool?
We are a busy family and we really live in our home. I am willing to spend the money, but don't want to make another carpet mistake. Okay - I do hate berber. Any suggestions?

Go to a couple of flooring stores (not big box stores) and ask about carpet and warranties. Mohawk is making some very nice carpet that is supposed to hold up well and has a good warranty. We installed it in some projects that are approx. 3-5 years old and still holding up.

I have always believed that wool was supposed to be the best. We put in a very expensive custom wool runner when we reworked our stairway and I have not been very happy about how it is holding up. It is starting to get thin on the stair edges and I worry that it is going to be thread bare before long. Maybe a fluke, not sure.
