Unfortunately not. But it is not the end of the plant. It will regrow, just as if you done this intentionally with a hard pruning.

This is one of the reasons it is recommended to plant clematis deeply (2-4" deeper than it is in its nursery container). The deeper planting encourages additional stem shoots from the root crown. Using alfalfa meal as a fertilizer supplement will help also. Alfalfa contains a natural plant growth hormone that will have a similar effect. More stem shoots = a stronger, less vulnerable to stem damage plant.

Thank You, I was afraid of that was the case, it happened when I was trying to remove the staples holding the stake to the side of the pot. I have 12 clems this will be my 13th not so lucky one.
