Thumb turn backplate on modern door

I'd love to have a thumb turn privacy latch on our bathroom door, but our contractor already ordered modern bore doors. I see this product, but I can't wrap my head around how the mechanism could work. Without a mortise latch, how does the thumb turn affect the latch at the knob? Thumb turn backplate for modern doors

If you find a tubular thumb turn they can just drill another set of holes for it.

The problem with some hollow core doors is that there could possibly be less support for it than there would be in a solid door.

We added glass door knobs and thumb turn latches to our new doors. I got the glass door knobs from a place that recovered parts from old buildings, and I had to order the thumb latches from a specialty store online. The standard latch assembly only included the inside thumb turn and the bolt, and you had to order a separate item to enable emergency access from outside the room.
