I would consider the gray to be like any other wood tone, and use any color you want. I'd stay away from deeper gray toned colors, or the room may feel muddied, and one dimensional. I'd stick with purer tones. Your second example has lots of natural light, which makes the gray walls appear much lighter than they would in a LR with fewer windows. Are you going for a modern or more traditional style? Do you have lots of natural light? What direction does the room face? Do you like grey painted walls? The floor is beautiful!

The place feels "cold" now since I have so much grey on the floor and it's a light gray. I was thinking an off-white to warm it up, or even a light taupe, but I heard taupe clashes with grey.

Studio M, that color is beautiful, but would it be too gray for the living room? That'll be grey floors and grey walls.

Maybe an accent wall with darker taupe?

what are your thoughts on these two wall colors (houzz photo attached)? Would these colors clash with a light gray hardwood? I would do a very similar design to the photo, most of the walls in the lighter color, and an accent wall with the darker.

That main mid tone gray that is dominant is what I would base your match to. I would either go a step lighter than that and I think the walls you have look great with it!

Just in case I was not clear, I'm matching my grey hardwood (first pic in original post), with different wall colors - my walls are just white right now.

People have suggested a light grey wall with my grey hardwood, but I feel it may be too cold, so I brought up this other picture that has a dark taupe and an off white.. not sure if those warm colors clash with my cold colored hardwood..?

I would definitely avoid going with any shade of grey with your beautiful new floors. Don't use an accent wall. That is hard to work with. pick up a folder of all shades of whites from the paint store. Study them. If you see what shade you like buy sample cans of 3 or 4 of them to paint on 2 foot by 2 foot poster boards (paint each one separately & fill each one with the sample paint.

Move the boards around your room at different times of the day. Live with the samples for a few days. You need to be sure. When you choose one add a few drops of the color into the ceiling paint before painting the ceiling. You do not want a dead white on the ceiling. Then paint the walls with your choice of color. Aren't you surprised how much color there really is in samples of shades of white? Add your saturated color in the rugs, art & décor items.

sandra, thanks for the advice. We have a similar philosophy with the greys.

Maybe I'll stick wtih an accent wall in the bedroom and not the living room. I like the idea of posterboards with a bunch of whites, I like less the idea of all the work I have to do living with it and looking at it =), but sage advice!

You mean you want to really know right now? I don't blame you, however think of painting the wrong color & then having to repaint it again.
