Where does the backsplash end?

We are installing large Porcelanosa wall tiles as backsplash. The counter (and below cabinets) extends a
few inches out of the line of top cabinets. So question is: does the
backsplash finishes at the line of the top cabinets or at the line of bottom counter?

I would extend to the line of the bottom cabinet - I had a similar situation, but the end of my countertop is a small sitting bar, so longer than the bottomr cabinet....I purchased a few vertical tiles to finish off the edge and extended them about an inch above the side of the cabinet for a finished look.
