Do you have a place in mind to order from? Stay away from places like Lowes, Walmart, Brecks etc..You may not get true to name irises and will be disappointed..Of course with a question like this you will get lots of suggestions.. One I recommend is Stairway to Heaven, grows like a gang buster for me..Frequent Flyer is a white that I love and it also grows well..Purr From Mints is a yellow and I just planted it last fall and it has increased well and bloomed also.. Not good at growing pinks, but Concertina is a great grower and maybe the only pink I have... You might be better off picking out what you like and then getting our opinions on what you like.

Ok here's a few I've been eyeing:

immortality, Lenora pearl, happenstance, Silverado, blue cloud, cafe blue, blue flirt

Immortality grows like mad for most people and even will rebloom in the fall if happy. I cant get it to grow, it just sits there..Dont know whats going on with it. Silverado is a great one. It does grow well for me. I dont grow the others so I cant help there..

I also have an older home (1928) so the idea of planting some heirlooms is appealing to me... Kind of creeping on flavescens....

lf you are interested, for postage I can send you some Immortality, Blue Skirt Waltz, & Silverado if it blooms so I know which one it is. I also have some pink that I got years ago as Jean Guymer, but there must have been another variety with it that was more vigorous & killed off Jean. This one is also a pink, more of a true soft pink than Jean, but I don't know what it is. Also have an heirloom pink/rose variety that may be Pink Lace. Let me know if you are interested, I will be thinning these in a couple of weeks, some others too.

I would love that! I wish I had something worth swapping, but this would be my 'starter kit'. Unless you want a candy lily, which I guess is technically an iris :)

Absolute Treasure is a stunning light blue. It always surprises me just how beautiful it is.
Skating party is an elegant, ruffled white.
Beverly
Sills is a tried and true pink. Some folks say that one of it's
parents, Vanity, is better. I also like Magical, which is more modern,
and a softer, very ruffled pink.

If you want a good heirloom iris might I suggest Wabash?

I certainly agree with 'That's All Folks. It bowled me over when it bloomed for the first time last year.

Bring up a list of Dykes Medal winners. They should all grow well anywhere.

I got that one from our local Iris club as a door prize. I've received beautiful rhizomes from Napa Iris, Superstition Gardens and Bay View Iris.. They're all in California.. Also Mid-America and Iris Sisters in Oregon were very good.. The AIS has a listing of growers on their website. Finding someone in your climate is always a good idea.

I have Immortality and would definitely recommend it. It grows well for me. Even though it may not matter as much to you, I LOVE the beautiful fragrance of Immortality!

Mariposa Skies just started blooming for me today and I would also recommend that one if you would like one that is a mix of light blue/violet and darker violet. Also a nice fragrance (I grow for fragrance and I am especially fond of the scent of most Irises)
