Kitchen Reno Complete
Our kitchen was suffering from a bad case of the 80's so we're thrilled with the final result of the renovation. It's a small kitchen, only 10' X 11' and he footprint stayed much the same with the biggest change being a swap of location between the stove and refrigerator. (Now the chef doesn't get constantly interrupted by those seeking a cold beverage.) We also removed the bulkhead between the nook and the kitchen (it wasn't load bearing) which really opened up the space and we put in a larger window to let in more light and expand the views into the pretty back yard. The peninsula is now 52" wide and provides plenty of space for prep work and serving buffet style meals. The pictures really don't do it justice but have a look at the before and after and see what you think.

11 years agoWow, thank you all for your lovely and generous compliments, much appreciated. @claudette2402, you are very perceptive, that's exactly the effect I was going for. :) That area serves as a great beverage, breakfast and snack center and also as an extra prep or baking centre so it's possible to have 3 people working in the kitchen at one time now. Lots of avid cooks and two professional chefs in the family and our circle of friends so this works well for us. I had contemplated putting legs on either side of these base cabinets to really play up the furniture look but that was preempted by a better idea. We had kick-plate drawers installed there and two others as well, one in the peninsula and another to the left of the sink. These are wonderful storage for pizza pans and peel, cake cooling racks and shallow serving dishes and they use up space that would otherwise go to waste. I highly recommend installing them where ever you can, even in the bathroom vanity or laundry room cabinets. Thanks again for the nice comments!
