Pine wood floors in a kitchen?

We have an old farmhouse with pine floors in several areas of the home. We are updating the kitchen with a simple white kitchen from ikea. There are several types of wood floors already throughout the home so I'm not trying to identically match. I was thinking wide plank pine, but a contractor as well as a floor person have warned against because they are too soft. Keep in mind this is a second home with weekend use only.

Take the advice of your contractor and floor person. Pine is an incredibly soft wood that is going to end up with a lot of scratches and gouges that you're going to be very unhappy with over time. Go with oak or another hardwood that will hold up over time.

Would love to know what you did. I have had heart pine floors in my kitchen for 21 years and love them. Just had them refinished for the first time and they look beautiful but I miss the golden color they had gained

Pine is fine for a second home. If you can find knotty pine & a good finisher in your area you will love the uniqueness of the grains
