70F is not 'cool' by bulb storage standards :-) Are the bulbs hard and firm? If so, you could go ahead and plant them - you've go nothing to lose - but I wouldn't expect too much. If they are indeed five years old, that's about 4 1/2 years older than ideal. If they are soft, they are beyond hope - just toss 'em.

And yes you can plant them now. There is nothing to be gained by waiting any later.

I just found some too...gladiola and dahlia...in my garage (unheated of course). They've been in there since at least November 2013..a couple were total goners but in all my curiosity I planted them all in nursery potters, labeled so I knew where those bulbs had come from. Wouldn't you know it, Ive got some good looking sprouts from a few already. and neither of those are meant to be outside through the winter in our region especially with the 2 very cold winters we've had here. On occasion some aggressive & sneaky bulbs miss my harvesting in the fall and come the next year I'll one day discover a sprout here and a few over there and so on. Nature has a way of being determined, so who knows. See this is froma few weeks ago..curious to see if you planted and anything is happening?
