My mother called me today with a perplexing occurance. She doesn't have a green thumb by any stretch of the imagination, but she has a number of orchids. She has researched their care a little and has them in proper orchid potting soil which she waters with ice cubes wrapped in paper towel. She also sprays the soil regularly to keep it from drying out. This morning when she sprayed them they began to cry - literally. Every single one of them started to emitted a high pitched whine. I tried googling it with no results. Does anyone know why they might be doing this? She has had some of them for a couple of years and they have never made so much as a peep before!
