After first checking that they are really dead by scraping away a bit of bark and looking for green cambium, cut back branches to live wood. If you do see green cambium, be patient. The old browned leaves will most likely be shed and replaced by new ones. Damage from winter cold, sun and wind is rarely fatal. Your laurel is clearly alive and should recover completely with time.

i like to say .. if an ugly bush.. is out on the back 4 acres... i will watch it .. and play with it... and make something of it... even if it take 3 to 5 years ...

but if its right out the front door... where it will irritate me every single day of my life.. it has to go.. my misery and all ...

Laurels are immensely retrievable :-) You can cut them back to a stub and they will regenerate.
