Kitchen layout/appliance help needed

Hi all,

Our new home design is finally finished. I have included a photo of the kitchen layout. We are choosing appliances now, and I'm overwhelmed. I'm pretty certain about the following appliances:

Bosch SHV68T53UC Dishwasher (800 series)

Bosch NIV86666UC 800 36" Black Electric Induction Cooktop

Bosch HBLP451RUC Benchmark 30" SS Electric Wall Oven (Side swing) (Maybe?)

Now... here's the problem. I'd like to stack a speed (convection) microwave oven on top of the wall oven, but the Bosch speed oven does not have a side swing option which makes the side swing wall oven seem silly... The whole reason for wanting the side swing door is so that I don't have to reach over the door to get to the cavity of the oven. I'm currently searching for other brands of convection microwaves. Suggestions?

I still need to choose a refrigerator (which seems like the hardest thing to decide on). I'd really like a 48" refrigerator and I specifically asked the designer to recess the wall so I don't have to go with counter depth (I'm trying to get the largest capacity possible).

I would love to get some suggestions for the issues above and some feedback for the items I've chosen so far.

Thanks!

Looking at your design, I would swap the fridge with the oven stacks. This will keep people out of your main work ares. Also, you have the dishwasher door opening into the fridge which would be a problem. The aisle width between your current oven and island should be at least 48". This will give space to open appliances and have someone walk behind it.

Regarding the speed cook oven, I think the GE advantium has a side swing door. I am not sure if that is the 120v or 240v model but you can do some research on the appliances forum. Your other choices look good. Have you decided on a hood for the cooktop?

    Good luck!

Thanks Homepro01. I will definitely take a look at swapping the fridge and oven. We haven't completely decided on the fridge but we're thinking about the 42" Jennair builtin. If we do that, then we can move the fridge over as you suggest. However, our original intention was to get a full depth refrigerator, hence the recessed wall. I wouldn't be able to recess the wall where the ovens are, so that would make the space even more cramped. I measured the space between the counter edge and the island and it is 3 feet there, so it may be a bit cramped even if I put the counter depth fridge there. Ugh! So many decisions!

I have not looked at hoods yet. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I would move the DW right next to the sink and then put a drawer stack on the end for storage of everyday cutlery, dishes, drinking glasses.

And in a kitchen that small, I would never waste space with a separate oven. I'd get a range.

I would also move the fridge to where the wall oven is now placed. Mostly because I think it would be a nightmare to keep having to close the DW door so someone could get something from the fridge.

If you have a nearby space for a second fridge, maybe in a garage or mudroom, I would put a smaller fridge in the kitchen itself to reclaim some counter space.
