My grandma always called this Wandering Jew. I don't know its real name, and I know there is a purple striped houseplant by that same name.

I have always heard it called Wild Wandering Jew, but I think the name is Tradescantia Fluminensis. Hard to eradicate IMO.

Yes I have heard it called wandering jew as well. Mine only have a blue flower. SoonerGrandmom is a master understater. Impossible to eradicate would be my observation :) Makes good compost additions though!

I like it, It certainly does like to pop up anywhere it can. I'm keeping as many wildflowers as I can. based on a google search, the wild wandering jew is what it is. The latin name above is not.

I really like this one because it fills in bare ground quickly but when I don't want it, pulling is easy.

There are a lot of similar plants found in various parts of the state so the name of the one you have could vary from the name of one that someone has in another part of the state.

In the spiderwort family, here in OK we have Tradescantia occidenta/occidentalis (often commonly referred to as Prairie spiderwort), T. ohiensis (both the white-flowered version commonly called white spiderwort and the blue-flowered one called Ohio spiderwort), T. tharpii (commonly called Tharp spiderwort), and T. ozaekanal, which is commonly referred to as Ozark spiderwort. Then in the dayflower family, we have similar-looking wildflowers that can be Commelina commanis, commonly called dayflower or Asiatic dayflower, and C. virginica, aka as Virginia dayflower. Some have blue blooms, some blooms can veer a little more towards bluish-purple, and some are white.

I think they are beautiful, but some of them are very invasive and I tend to yank them out of most areas of our property. When I tried in the past to leave a couple of them, I soon found they had given birth to hundreds more, and then I spent years getting rid of all of them. Getting rid of them isn't what really happened, apparently I only suppressed them and the drought years aided in that. Here in this wet year, they are back as vigorous and invasive as ever. Some are more invasive than others.
