Coral Bark Maple disease ID

Several years ago, I purchased this coral bark maple from a local nursery. I have since learned that they are highly prone to disease. This tree was rapidly declining. I have read that you can prune them, and sometimes save them, but I decided to remove the tree. I was wondering if anybody could maybe ID the disease from these photos, and would it be safe to plant another Maple in the same location. I also think that I had the tree in too much shade. I am in zone 7, in Arkansas. Most of my other maples handle the same shade situation with no problem, but maybe this variety is a little bit more picky.
