What did the root system look like when you were repotting it?

It was very root bound. They had it in such a tiny pot with not much soil. I fluffed the roots out to the best of my ability. I'm always nervous when messing around with roots

I think that the rootbound-ness accounts for the movement of the tree. Even if you had been ruthless in spreading the roots out when repotting it, those poor squished roots have got to grow out of their pot shape to anchor the tree. My gut feeling is that that pot is still too small for it, but I don't grow in containers, so it's just a feeling. I would keep it anchored gently, as you have, and keep an eye on it as the roots start to do their job. Make sure that you didn't plant it too deeply - small or not, it's still a tree, and where the trunk met the soil in the old pot should be where the trunk meets the soil in the new pot, and it's hard for me to see that area in your picture.
