Old Rhododendron Plants Blooming

I found these old Rhododendrons flowering in an old city park garden. I really enjoyed seeing the white with orange one.

i believe those are deciduous azaleas. Many have a wonderful spicy fragrance.

The first one could be Rhododendron 'Persil'. It is a deciduous azalea that belongs to the Knaphill Hybrids. Knaphill was the garden of the British nurseryman Anthony Waterer and he did many crosses with deciduous azaleas at the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century.

I have to 2 Knaphill azaleas in flower right now and they are both wonderfully fragrant. Don't know which cultivars they are.

I kept the mature deciduous azaleas that were here along the driveway bed when we bought this house 2 years ago. We liked their warmer colors (compared to all the overgrown pink rhododendrons, someone had really liked pink ;)) and the deer hadn't bothered the deciduous azaleas at all. I then bought Azalea Golden Lights and added that in back - the deer ate it.
