Help on kitchen makeover

I got a new home and want to makeover this kitchen which was last constructed 15 years ago. My budget is around 15k to 18k . Please help! I don't need the bar and unsure if I can break the wall as they may be the beams. Secondly the counter in middle of the kitchen is extremely small and only option I see is moving it one feet in front so that it doesnot blocks the window in the side. Please share pictures of you feel if you have similar kitchen and can help. Thanks

Thanks for a quick reply. I want to let go everything and want more open and modern space.which is good looking. Also not a drinker so willing to let the bar go it not sure how to utilize that space.

If you take one or two more pics from different angles that would be helpful. In the meantime, a few other questions. What parts of this makeover can you do yourself and what parts will you need to hire someone else to do? Replacing cabinets, especially the size of your kitchen will eat up a major portion of your budget. Would you consider keeping the perimeter cabinets? If they are in good condition you might change their color only. Redesigning the center island sounds like a good idea. Even a small one level island could improve that area. It looks like there is a door near the oven, but I can't tell for sure. Is that a pantry? As for converting your bar area, you will likely need to have it checked by a contractor to make certain there are no load bearing walls in that area.

If you aren't going to use the bar area, it would be nice to convert it into an office/homework station/computer spot. I would love to have that so close to the kitchen and main living areas, with the clutter of it slightly closed off like your bar is. I also agree that you should reface/paint/reuse your perimeter cabinets and focus your budget on the island, etc.

For the island, I would make it counter height, not bar height, and extend it out. Since you are looking for a more modern look, you can do so by adding new hardware and a new backsplash. Also, painting over the walls. For the bar area, I would have to see additional photos to better help you but from what I am looking at you could remove some things and have floor to ceiling built ins or do a "nook" with a console table and a couple of flanking chairs. Hope this helps.

I agree with brookeswift. Repurpose the adjoining bar area for another use. Adding the space to your kitchen would far exceed your budget. More pictures of the bar area would be helpful. I would put one continuous countertop on the island and add counter height stools.

I can't believe I missed the backsplash! Here's how I would prioritize: If something is broken (ex. appliance), either fix or replace it first. If you replace an appliance, I would replace the others to match. Then I would replace the backsplash. I would make the island counter height, remove the existing counter, and install a single slab. I would probably replace the perimeter countertops to match but you could definitely leave them and pick a contrasting stone for the island. I would then decide how to utilize the bar area and either close it off or open it up. Lastly I would paint the walls.
