I have matched hinges, door handles, and faucets. Not necessarily the light fixtures; they have the same sheen but not same tone (brushed nickel with antiqued gold/brass light fixture).
Gold tones are now "in" but not the cheap shiny brass from a couple decades ago.
What was typical in cottages 100 years ago? I picture polished chrome.

You don't have to have everything match, as long as they don't clash with each other. When I hear 100 year old cottage I think of either glass or porcelain knobs.
