I seem to recall that when I started my bin, I put food in 3-4 days before the worms showed up so it would have a chance to start breaking down before they got there. Go ahead and feed them a little.

I actually set up the bins with bedding and food two weeks before I add worms. Like bassopotamus notes, it's about beginning the food breakdown process and overall environment. I get mine going very well. My setup includes wet newspaper, cardboard and egg cartons, well aged horse manure, veggies and pumpkin that have been frozen, thawed and chopped into small pieces. Crushed egg shells are added as well for grit and ph control.

I know you said youve already fed them, but keep in mind the more broken down that is the sooner they can make use of it. It will be the actual bacteria that they will be eating,, knowing that will help you going forward.
